Goodbye 2008, Hello 2009

January 1, 2009

Happy New Year, everyone!  As I’ve mentioned, we’re in New Orleans for the weekend, so our mouths are too stuffed with beignets for me to say much today.  But I couldn’t let the new year ring in without saying thank you to all of you.  This site has become such an important part of my life and so have many of you.  Look at all this food we made this year!  It was thrilling to make, inspiring to document, delicious to eat, and heartwarming to share with you.  Let’s have some more fun in 2009: what do you say?

Do You Like My New Outfit?

October 27, 2008

Good morning!  I’ve got a “real” post lined up for you, but it won’t arrive until tonight.  In the meantime, though, I wanted to ask: do you like my new outfit?  After almost a year, I have undergone my first mini-blog makeover.  It’s simpler, brighter and more me.  I’ve got some more changes in the works and I really hope you’ll like those too.

Speaking of new and different, tonight’s post is my first-ever participation in a multi-blog event.  Stay tuned!  So, have a good day and I’ll see you back here in a few hours, okay?

200 & Counting

July 4, 2008

Whoops! A milestone came and went this week and I didn’t stop to notice. Wednesday’s panzanella was my 200th post! I’m the sentimental type who likes to use opportunities like this for a little reflection. Indulge me? It is a holiday (Happy 4th!), after all. First, some photos of the recipes I’m proudest to have conquered during the last 100 posts: whole wheat pita (sooo cool; you must try it); jam (so easy; who knew?); profiteroles (to finish off a dinner party for 15; yes, you read right: 15); and bagels (again: sooo cool; you must try it):

Okay, enough about me. On to you and this three-day weekend we’ve all just embarked on. I’m sure many of you already have menus planned for the holiday, but for those of you who don’t, let’s play a little choose your own adventure. It works like this: choose one option from each of the next three sets of photos (mains; sides; sweets), all pulled from the archives of the last 100 posts, and you’ve got yourself a BBQ. BYO fireworks.

First, the main dishes, all carnivorous (for the vegetarians, skip down a category!)—sandwiches (steak & blue cheese; brisket & cheddar; turkey meatball; grilled chicken); fun with beer (beer can chicken; beer boiled chicken brats); and grill love (grilled pizza; bourbon-glazed ribs):

100 Posts

March 1, 2008

Today marks my 100th post on The Kitchen Sink! Somehow, I’ve managed to post about something we’ve baked, cooked, braised, roasted, blended, concocted etc for 100 straight days. Now, I know it’s not exactly Cal Ripken-esque, as far as consecutive streaks go. But I thought it was cause for a bit of celebration! And perhaps a chance to offer a wee word of warning that I’m not sure how long I can keep this up …

So, without further ado, click “more” for a collage of photos from our first 100 days. It’s fun to take a gander at the food and drinks from all the Family Dinners, Salad Mondays, dinner parties, cocktail parties, brunches, noshes, trials and tribulations. Enjoy …

(Click “more” for the collage, which will take a few moments to load.)
